Description:

BlueIce v4 is a modified kwin decoration based on jrch2k's Advanced Kwin Decoration Client. Thanks jrch2k!

BlueIce contains everything used in the original nvidia kwin decoration, excluding the images that are used and the name displayed in the control center.

I have also included a color scheme which works well with this decoration. It can be found in the color scheme folder.

BlueIce version 4 has now been added replacing older versions of BlueIce.

BlueIce, Dark BlueIce v4 fix the config part of this decoration so that it now fits the screensize better. v4 also includes a few minor bug fixes.

debian .deb and mandrake .rpm now available.

Thanks to korrel from www.mandrakeclub.nl for the RPMs!

Note : BlueIce v4 will not conflict with the AKDC / nvidia kwin decoration.

Enjoy!

Changelog:

11.05.04 - Mandrake .rpms are back up, sorry for the long wait.
09.13.04 - fixed some broken links. Mandrake .rpms are not available due to server maintenance, sorry. I'll get them up as soon as possible.
08.22.04 - rebuilt .debs, fixed Dark BlueIce conflict issue.
08.21.04 - replaced BlueIce and Dark BlueIce v3 with version 4. released .deb and .rpm of each decoration.
08.14.04 - added BlueIce v3 and Dark BlueIce (including .debs), removed old BlueIce packages, updated screenshots to resemble new decorations.
06.04.04 - added BlueIce .deb
06.05.04 - rebuilt .deb ; package now works when nvidia kwin decoration is also installed
06.05.04 - added color scheme download
06.07.04 - added BlueIce version 2
06.07.04 - replaced BlueIce version 1 with BlueIce version 3 containing smoother edges like the nvidia kwin dec.

 How to install?

Pardon my ignorance but there are no installation instructions included and nothing in the how-tos on this site to explain to a noob what to do with the files in the archive once extracted.

Never mind, I just noticed it's for 3.2 and I'm still running 3.1!

I'm sorry to be such a pooper, but do you have permission from the author of the original windeco to make a modification of his/her work? jrch2k ported the windeco, but did not create it, so the right move would be to contact the original author who designed the windeco for windows and ask if you can make a derivative.

Original author??? Come on, let the guy do his job! The original theme is a winblow's one, jrch2k's theme is a kwin one. I guess that means jrch2k wrote the theme from scratch and LGPLed it. Following your suggestion, all those XP-like themes are illegal and should be licensed from Micro$$oft prior to being published?
TIP (no offence): turn off the Auto-Pilot and land yourself on earth ;-)

You know, that also a look and feel can be copyrighted, not just the source code?

Ever heard that Apple threated freshmeat.net with a lawsuit, ending that freshmeat.net had to remove some Apple like themes for e.g. enlightenment? Oh... Enlightenment themes have a completely different code base.

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

Yo, I aint' a lawyer... I was just wondering how one can judge (in a court) if a theme/decoration/whatever "looks like" another one. And after all you see something nice, you take a screenshot of it, build it from scratch using your GIMP, enhance it, maybe, and publish it. I can't see anything wrong with that... All these sound to me like the software patents discussion. Grrrr, I do hate patents. gonna migrate to Mars :-PPPP

This has nothing to do with patents. It is international copyright law, and is what so far has protected open-source projects, with the licenses basically being legal documents describing exactly what is allowed by the author.

Please, have a look at the copyright laws, they are in fact very interesting. It's also interesting to consider the fact that they are changed close to every year, because someone finds a way through holes in the law, enabling them to perform illegal actions.

For example, a hole was just plugged in Denmark that allowed people to copy music from CDs borrowed at the library legally.

The moral of the story: Do your homework before posting flame-bait ;D

Why is it a hole, to be allowed to copy CDs you lend from a library?! Well, poor Danes, here in good old Germany you're still allowed to copy CDs, as long as you don't crack a copy protection.

hey guy the original windows nvidia theme is not a micro&%@$ one(micro%$@& didn't made it, Noooooo!!!) is from stardock windowsblinds 4.2(very bad engine but nice art) so micro¬½#@ doesn't have nothing to do.

in fact i've heard that you can make reverse engineering for compatibility reasons, so i hack it;-)

if you don't like it or you have some kind license moral problem just does not use it.

is not stole is compatibility;-)

This is moddification of the nvidia kwin deco right. Since it's LGPL the original author (Of the Window's Version) really has nothing todo with this deco. After all this is a modification to LGPL software. Not the Windows port. If the Original Author had a problem with it. He should/would never have allowed the Nvidia Kwin to be released under the LGPL.

Well, I guess the moral of the story is not about homework.... The moral is that nvidia kwin theme rockzzzzzz! But again I did not like the colours much. So BlueIce suits me fine. Really good. My default theme as of 18 hundrend hours UTC today ;-)
